Woodbridge Zinfandel 2004

Woodbridge Zinfandel 2004
Robert Mondavi
California
The legendary Robert Mondavi – the son of Italian immigrants will be 93 this year. Today, the reputation of his Napa winery is promoted by his two sons, Timothy and Michael. In the wine circles, the Mondavi family is one of the most important not only for the Californian, but also for world wine industry. It is also interesting because our Miljenko (Mike) Grgich worked in the Robert Mondavi’s winery for a while before going to the Chateau Montelena winery in Calistoga. In 1979, Mondavi family bought Cherokee Wine Association, founded by a group of growers of Lodi, with oldes vineyards in California. The winery was renovated and renamed to Woodbridge. Today, under the leadership of Mondavi winery in Napa, it became one of the leaders in the production of top quality Californian wines, and what is also important – wines at affordable prices. The Californian wines, or US wines in general, might be a too steep for an average Croatian consumer. However, this is not the case with this wine, because its quality comes with a very affordable price.
Woodbridge Zinfandel well presents the character of this variety with an interesting past, touching the Italian variety from Puglia Primitivo, and recently the Zinfandel from Kastela. This supple and aromatic grape variety with the accentuated note of sweet, succulent fruit is ideal for producing strong, dry red wines. In different wine growing regions of the world, Italy, California and especially Australia, it has developed different characteristics.
Woodbridge Zinfandel opens in rich layers of black berry fruits and aromatic herbs. The vanilla hints that come from ripening in small oak barrels spread in waves through velvety aromas all the way to a mouth-puckering and pleasantly bitter finish. Dark, spice streaked fruit character is rich in ripe notes of raspberries, Porto and blackberries. This excellently potent, warm and complex wine with a profound bouquet seems very sincere and perfected in the technical sense. This is an authentic example of a Californian Zinfandel.
