Meyer Lemon – a hybrid of lemon and tangerine
The Meyer lemon variety comes from China, where it is mostly grown as a decorative tree, and it is considered that it is a hybrid of lemon and tangerine. Meyer has a sweet taste and a fragrant, edible koru. The tree of this sweet lemon is small in height (two to three meters), and it usually takes around four years for a seed to grow into a tree. Agronomist Frank Meyer brought it to the US from one of his travels to China in 1808, so this lemon variety was named after him. Meyer spread from the US to Europe, although it was probably already known there.
