Grasevina 2004 Krauthaker

Grasevina 2004
Vinogradarstvo i podrumarstvo Krauthaker
Kutjevo wine growing region

A wine by one of the leading Croatian winegrowers and winemakers, Vlado Krauthaker from Kutjevo, recently became one of the spoils of the passengers in first class on Lufthansa’s intercontinental flights. The wine in question is Sauvignon 2004. It is the first Croatian wine Lufthansa picked for its wealthy passengers from the sample of 40 Croatian wines.

But Lufthansa is not alone in recognizing the value of his wines. In 2002, Krauthaker received the award “Winemaker of the Year” by the wine magazine “Svijet u casi”. His wines, especially Grasevina, won awards on numerous wine fairs and exhibitions (Bonavita, Vinovita). In 2005, he started the ecological cultivation of several grape varieties on 1,2 hectares that will, according to his plans, become a model example of an environmentally friendly vineyard for this part of the continental Croatia. Today, “Vinogradarstvo i podrumarstvo Krauthaker” has more than 55 hectares under grape vines.

It might surprise you that out of two Krauthaker’s Grasevina wines, neither of them is barrique. Apart from this one with the slant label, there is also the one with the square yellow label, with better quality and a higher price. However, the “ordinary” Grasevina will not disappoint you, although it is a very simple, sipping wine.

It has a pale yellow hue with green reflections, typical for Grasevina variety (for which we hope EU will recognize as an indigenous grape variety). On the nose it has a clear fruity aroma with the fragrance of chamomile and mimosa. In the mouth it leaves a dry, warm and fresh mineral taste. It does not open into the depth, it is not a compact and complex wine, but a standard high quality you can get for a moderate amount of money. If you wish to taste something luscious, take Grasevina 2004 with the square, yellow label from the southern locations of Mitrovac, and you won’t go wrong.
