Rajnski rizling 2006 R. Braje

Rajnski rizling 2006 R. Braje
Vinogorje Plesivica-Okic

Taking the road from Samobor you will reach the mountain-ridge of Mount Plesivica that opens a magnificent and impressive view of Okic, Plesivica, Sv. Jana, Slavetic, Mladina, Desinec and Jastrebarsko. This is the location of the  heart of this region: Plesivica-Okic vineyards, and a little less St. Jana-Slavetic. This is the best area of this winegrowing region. Zumberacka gora hill spreads through the entire area, from east to west, so the vineyards are mostly settled on the south slopes, protected from cold airflow from the north. Its slopes flow either vertically on the hills,or are located circularly between the hills, creating well protected and picturesque amphitheater-like locations unique in the world for their beauty, with finest winegrowing terrains at the altitude of 250 to 400 meters.

This Rhein Riesling comes from the winegrowing  region of Plesivica-Okic from the family cellar of a young winemaker Robert Braje. Young Braje is the president of Fine Wine Enthusiast Club, consisting mostly of young people known in the vine growing and wine making circles for their own contributions, as our famous journalist Pero Gabric once wrote. These Drago Kurtalj, Tomislav Tomac, Zdenko Sember, Miroslav Ivancic, Franjo Kolaric and others. This club operating in the Okic-Plesivica-Samoborje winegrowing region was established in 1983. It is especially known in the wine circles for operating in these 25 years under the slogan "Who will make better wine from the same grape variety!"

Robert Braje managed to create a very solid Riesling. It is characteristic for the lively straw yellow hue with greenish reflections, and an intensive varietal aroma. For those who don't know, the name comes from "rieseln", meaning "trickle off" since this was a variety that trickled off in bloom. The aroma reveals fresh apples and Batsch peach with discreet honey notes that are later present throughout the entire sip. On the middle palate, it is lemony with mineral notes. Perhaps it lacks a bit of concentration, but we believe that the winemaker wanted to create such a light, fresh and smooth wine. It has 12,2 percent of alcohol by volume. The aftertaste is pleasantly bitter and of solid length.

Best paired with: sea fish, chicken, cold salads, and Gastro.hr recommends Plesivica dry cheese.
