Kunjas, Posip 2006

Kunjas, Posip 2006
Kunjasic
Smokvica, Korcula

This Posip wine comes from the restricted locations of Smokvica on Korcula. It is labeled as a quality dry white wine. Kunjasic family winery has three hectares of vineyards. It is interesting that Kunjasic-Kunjas family archives mention Posip as a separate variety as early as 1880.

It is made in a very modern way, by controlled fermentation on own yeasts in unburnt oak barrels so the oak note would not cover Posip’s characteristic aroma. The wine has a compact golden yellow hue. It is a very correct wine with stressed fruit aromas with hints of spices. It has a partially open and sweet aroma hinting notes of peaches, ripe apples and honey. The alcohol is well blended in. Perhaps it could have been more of it, but 12,5 percent of alcohol is completely satisfactory and nicely warming in the mouth.

The wine’s flavor and taste is very clean. On the palace it is lively, delicious because of ethanol and influence of barrel. The taste is rounded and smooth, full with certain herbal notes. The aftertaste is lingering and lightly puckering. It has an excellent price to quality ratio.

Best paired with: fish, shells, seafood risotto, cold summer salads with cheese and/or chicken, but you can serve it as an aperitif.
