Pithos

The newly opened Pithos snack bar, near Svacicev trg, is probably the smallest snack bar in the town, offering a quite solid selection of daily dishes.

Cute and incredibly small space exudes modern city life, but with great doses of relaxedness and good atmosphere. The greatest asset of Pithos are traditional pies, like spinach pie, potato pie, kvrgusa (chicken pie), cheese pie and börek prepared by an experienced lady from the neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina. She was hired by the young and very charming owner, who came to the idea of opening her own snack bar for a very simple reason: she loves to cook.

The daily menu consists every day of two to three different dishes like kale with lamb, wine goulash, lamb steaks, bread fried hake or string beans stew. There are also promising dishes like bean stew and different stews.

Spinach pie that we tasted in Pithos several days ago, was one of the best we tasted so far, and surely the best in Zagreb. Warm, fresh, without excess fat and a big portion. The prices are not worth mentioning, they are so low that they are acceptable to anyone.

For those working people craving a quick hot stew, their woes are finally over. The phone in Pithos rings off the hook, and everyone is on first name basis, and the atmosphere achieved in the short period of time is enviable. The prices of dishes do not exceed HRK 35, in average around HRK 25 for daily dishes and HRK 12 for pies.
