JP Chenet Shiraz 2006

JP Chenet Shiraz 2006
France

J.P. Chenet wines are unique for the bottles with a “crooked neck”. They come from the French region of Languedoc Roussillon, and this bottle carries the label vin de pays (pronounced VaN deh Pie-ee), meaning that this is a table wine of controlled origin, i.e. a third rank quality wine. Two categories above are vin de pays su appellation d'origine controlee (AOC) and vin délimité de qualité supérieure (VDQS). Such wines are usually freed of strict production demands that are usually imposed on wines with appellation contrôlée.

Languedoc Roussillon is much more famous for its red wines; the white wines are less important and less represented. The entire region is dominated with the style of southern reds with rich fruitiness, traditional earthiness as well as high alcohol content. Indeed. Its aroma was suspicious to us, and this suspicion was later confirmed.

Its flavor is far from the delicious aromas and textures usual in Shiraz wines that are even more average than this. The characteristic fragrant and sweet varietal character is completely non-existent. The wine lacks harmony, it is robust, bitter and most of all – flat wine. In other words, some wines lack flavor because they have a start and a finish and no middle. Unfortunately, it seems that this wine has no start, middle or finish.

Best paired with: will do excellently for cooking or marinades.
