Maharis Magnum 2006

Maharis Magnum 2006
Feudo Maccari
Italy
Vivat i partneri wine boutique from Zagreb recently brought a limited number of bottles of Magnum Maharis from the Feudo Maccari winery. This wine comes in 1.5 liter bottles, and each bottle is packed in a pretty black box. Feudo Maccari is the Sicilian estate of the Italian fashion mogul Antonio Moretti, known to Croatian lovers of exceptional wine as the owner of Tenutta sette Ponti (Oreno, Crognolo, Orma) winery from Tuscany. On almost the most southern point of Sicily (Noto), looking at the majestic Leptis Magna, left to the Pelopones and right to the Carthage, the Feudo Maccari vineyards are located at the heart of the Mediterranean, in the place where the Roman, Greek and Arabian cultures and influences mixed for centuries.
Nero d' Avola (or “the black Avola” - Avola is a town and municipality in Syracuse, Sicily) is the most popular Sicilian grape variety that is however cultivated in other parts of southern Italy, but this "black Avola" is the most famous. In the past, Nero d'Avola, as well as other Sicilian reds, was often syrupy and with a high percentage of alcohol – too much for a table wine. In any case, its name well describes its structure and intensity.
Maharis was named after the watchtowers that were built in the Arabic world to watch over the sea and coast. Maharis symbolizes the meeting of different styles and cultures, bringing and blending this authentic Sicilian variety.
Maharis has a ruby red color with a purple reflection. The wine aged for 12 months in oak barrels, and 12 more in the bottle before it was released on the market. The aroma reveals balsamic notes and a mixture of cocoa and coffee. The tannins are soft, sweet and nicely rounded. The aftertaste reveals notes of spices and smoke. Unforgettable!
