Possesioni bianco 2005 Masi

Possesioni bianco 2005 Masi
Serego Alighieri
Italy

Many Italian wines are like Italian shoes – elegant, well tailored and comfortable. This goes for both red and white Italian wines. Masi winery, the brand that guarantees worldwide quality, also produces a Possesioni bianco with Serego Alighieri label, which is basically a blend of two varieties; 75 percent of the old variety of Garganega, believed to be originate in Greece (as its name suggests) and 25 percent of the internationally renowned variety of Sauvignon Blanc.

This blend comes from the Serego Alighieri vineyards in Gargagnago di Sant’Ambrogio in Verona. Serego Alighieri family (descendents of poet Dante Alighieri) started passionately cultivating grape vine a long time ago, and did so with an excellent business sense. This winery today boasts a few centuries of tradition, and it grows grape vine where it always had: in the soil consisting of red soil with enough humus on the eocene limestone with a slightly colder microclimate due to the influence of nearby Adiga river.

The intensive bouquet of Sauvignon Blanco, blended with the decent elegance of Garganega grapes, resulted in a fragrant wine, with traces of tropical fruits, lemons and especially almond. Almonds streak the entire sip, even the aftertaste, complementing Sauvignon Blanco and its lightness, freshness and airiness. The invigorating acidity, that Garganega usually lacks, came from blending with Sauvignon. Another interesting thing is that Sauvignon fermented in barrique barrels (for three months) before it was blended with Garganega that fermented in stainless steel. If we know that Sauvignon Blanc rarely takes on an oak note (unlike Chardonnay, for example) and that it does not blend so well with other vines/varieties, you will get a closer idea about how interesting this wine is.

Best paired with: beef, chicken, pasta, salt water fish, neutral cheese, colder salads, you can also serve it as an aperitif.
