Istenic Desiree

Istenic Desiree

1960s are considered to be very important for the winemaking business. A great wizard of wine, Robert Mondavi, defined in 1966 the direction of the global winemaking industry by establishing his wine cellar in Oakville with a goal to make top quality wines. Only two years later, Janez Istenic made the first bottle of his sparkling wine using the classic method in the town of Stara vas na Bizeljskem in Slovenia. He named it after his first daughter Barbara who was born in that year. Striving to top quality, Janez Istenic followed in the footsteps of Roberto Mondavi although the trends were completely different at that time in this region.

Today family Istenic has 5 hectares of vineyards. They cultivate Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gris and Blanc, Riesling and other varieties. Especially because of the favorable agroclimatic conditions, the grape ripening season is growing longer, so the ration of sunny days and cold nights is increasing. This at the same time means that the wines have the ideal ratio of sugars and acids, providing for an excellent potential for growing sparkling wines. The delicate mineral flavor of Istenic’s sparkling wines also comes from the special soil, rich with silicate sediments.

This Desirée that came recommended from wine boutique Vrutak in Zagreb is an aromatic peach-flavored white sparkling wine. It is tailored with the classic champagne method from several carefully selected grape varieties. It has a full flavor, rather sweet and aromatic. It will surely be welcomed by the fairer sex. It also has an excellent price to quality ratio.
