Grill Kod dede
Bistro-grill Kod dede is among the grill restaurant worthy of respect in Zagreb’s district of Prečko. If you happen to visit it by chance, not knowing that this is a restaurant specialized in grill dishes, you might think that you ended up in a vineyard cottage in Zagorje, because of the wood paneling, or a somewhat rustic Slavonian restaurant. However, we recommend a planned visit since such a combination of warm and spacious interior and delicious food is quite rare.
The menu is typical for the restaurants of this type, with a few surprises. You can expect the standard offering of cevapcici, skewers, meat patty variations and other meat masterpieces like beefsteak, cordon bleu, neck and chicken breasts. The selection of side dishes should also be commended. Along with the usual French fries and salads, it includes gravce na tavce, baked potato halves and djuvec. The portions are big (of course, for people not attempting to break the world record in food consumption), and the food is delicious and well prepared, although it lacks “that little something” that would make it high quality and lure customers away from the nearby Stari kotac.
The thing where Kod dede undoubtedly dominates the competition is dish presentation. Apart from the food coming on modern plates that even trendy restaurants would not be ashamed of, the dish is not just a piece of meat with the side dish jumbled onto the plate, it also includes nice vegetable decorations – something that is not typical for grill restaurants. Of course that a presentable dish additionally teases the palate and opens the appetite.
The wine list includes typical and expected names like Krauthaker, Zdjelarevic, Enjingi, Babic... We believe that if the selection of wines was a bit more adventurous, it would additionally separate the restaurant from the competition.
The prices are regular and acceptable, and the staff is friendly and efficient. All in all, you can bring your family or business partners here for some good grill dishes in a décor that fortunately does not evoke those long past socialist times.
