Viento Sur Syrah 2007
Etiketa Viento Sur is the first brand from Freixenet’s Cono Sur project (this project includes vineyards in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay). The grapes for the wines in this brand are cultivated in the vineyards of Finca Ferrer estate, located on the eastern slopes of the Andes, in the wine growing region of Uco valley, which is a part of the most famous and productive Argentinean wine region of Mendoza.
Relatively high altitude of the vineyards (1.300 meters), and consequently a specific microclimate characteristic for great temperature oscillations between day and night, result in intensive aromas and grape flavors, that turn into impressive wine in the hands of skilled winemakers. The Viento Sur brand offers a total of 6 single variety wines, 4 of which are red.
Based on the ruby color with purple reflection and a dose of liveliness, it is clear at first glance that this is a young wine. On the other hand, its solid depth indicates its strength. Breathing the wine fills the nostrils with strong and lasting aromas of dark fruits and aromas of pickled olives, soil and the ubiquitous notes of pepper that gradually start to dominate, with subsequent arrival of vegetal notes. The mouth reveals the hotness and the strength of this wine. The flavor is dominated by pepper, while the fruitiness is masked by alcohol, that although it is not too high (13.8 percent) “sticks out” and is rather out of balance. In our opinion, the reason for this can be partially ascribed to the mild and smooth tannins.
This is a buffed up, substantial and meaty wine, that can almost be chewed, but it is also the one which lacks some harmony and elegance. On the other hand, lovers of wines with more alcohol and intensive flavors might be intrigued by it.
This wine can be purchased in Vivat i partneri wine boutique.
