Ilocki podrumi Grasevina 2008, Srijem wine growing region

Ilocki podrumi wine company is one of the business partners of company Agrokor vina. Agrokor vina have a total of 2.226 acres of vineyards, 376 of which are new vineyards. The new plantation of Ilocki podrumi spread over 69 acres. This continues the glorious tradition of continuity in production of excellent wines. This tradition was interrupted several times throughout the history. Since the development of viticulture on the territory of present-day Croatia was closely linked with the development of the Roman power, the decline of this power led to the deterioration of viticulture.
Upon arrival of the Romans in this area, emperor Probus (276 - 282) confirmed area around Ilok as extremely suitable for viticulture. The town of Ilok developed from the Roman fort Cuccium. It lies on the slopes of Fruska gora , on the right bank of Danube river in the region of Srijem. The flourishing Slavonian vine growing in the region of Srijem was stopped in 1536, when it came under Turkish rule. Namely, Islam forbids drinking of wine, so the varieties changed in favor of those used for eating, not for making wine. After powdery mildew (oidium) and downy mildew (Peronospora), the emergence of phylloxera in late 19th century, almost completely eradicated the old vineyards. Despite the historical turbulences, diseases and wars (especially WWII and the Homeland War), viticulture in this region always managed to recover from the destruction and continued to develop.
Grasevina, this queen of Croatian white varieties, grows here next to the widely known fragrant Ilok Traminer. The wide region of Ilok consists of a striking landscape crisscrossed by deep valleys that gradually rise to the altitude of 200 to 250 meters, creating plateaus suitable for vineyards. On the recently held international wine competition of Vinagora, this Grasevina won gold. Vinagora event was held in Budapest under the sponsorship of trade organizations O.I.V. (International Organization of Vine and Wine) and UIOE (Union Internationale des Œnologues).
Ilok Grasevina 2008 is a dry wine, with a nice yellow hue with greenish reflections. Although the wine is labeled as a high quality wine, it is a so-called everyday wine, which is evident from its price. This wine has an excellent price to quality ratio. It has a recognizable varietal aroma. Full, rounded and harmonious aroma indicates a good alcohol to acidity ratio. We recommend you drink it immediately.
