Simic: War as a legitimate mean

6.12.2007 15:07:00 | Source/Author PressCut

Aleksandar Simic said that the war for Kosovo was a legitimate legal mean for defending Kosovo if other options were explored. Advisor to Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica made this statement in the RTS’s show, which caused fierce reactions and divisions inside the ruling coalition. While the Democratic Party describes this statement as irresponsible, dangerous and warmongering, the DSS sees nothing controversial in Simic’s words.

Previously, on numerous occasions, the Serbian Government said they would defend Kosovo by all legal and political means, but denied the use of force. Still, Kostunica’s advisor said that despite Serbia’s negative experiences from armed conflicts and the war in former Yugoslavia, the state interests were also defended by war. When someone does not respect the Security Council, which has to react when someone is threatening by aggression, a country is left with no other options.
