Bulgaria has signed a contract with a consortium led by France's EDF and Russia's Rosenergoatom for preparatory works for extending the lifespan of the two 1,000-megawatt (MW) units of its sole nuclear power plant, the government said on Friday.

"The first stage of the preparations to extend the lifespan of Kozloduy nuclear power plant's Units Five and Six by up to 20 years has begun," the government said in a statement.
