EU Probes Tariffs of Romanian Power Producer Hidroelectrica

The European Commission said on Wednesday it has opened five distinct in-depth investigations to assess whether Romanian hydropower producer Hidroelectrica purchased or sold electricity at preferential tariffs.

The Commission will assess whether Hidoelectrica offered preferential tariffs to several electricity traders, industrial clients and electricity producers to favour clients by lowering their operating costs, increasing their revenues or a combination of the two, in breach of EU state aid rules, the Commission said in a statement.
