Czech energy group CEZ said on Thursday it turned to negative earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of 1.9 billion Czech crowns ($97.5 million/75.4 million euro) from power distribution and sales operations in Albania in the first quarter of 2012 from a breakeven a year earlier.
The group's performance on the power distribution and sales segment in Albania was influenced by the decision of the country's regulator to increase by 90% the price of electricity purchased from state-owned power producer KESH, combined with a loss of margin on sales to largest customers as they have been legally classified as eligible customers, CEZ said in its quarterly report.
