The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), in cooperation with Nova KBM, the Municipality of Maribor, Regional Chamber of Craft and Small Business Maribor and the Styrian Chamber of Commerce, has hosted a business conference in Maribor, Slovenia’s second-largest city. The event explored the EBRD’s role in Slovenia and the public procurement policies of EBRD-financed projects, said in statement.
The event gathered over 150 representatives from the Slovenian private and public sectors including the Mayor of Maribor, Dr. Andrej Fištravec; Executive Director for Corporate Banking at Nova KBM, Jernej Močnik; the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Štajerska, Dr. Roman Glaser; and the President of the Regional Chamber of Craft and Small Businesses Maribor, Aleš Pulko. The EBRD’s representation at the event included Regional Head Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia and Hungary,
Vedrana Jelušič Kašić; Head of Slovenia, Jolanta Gabriel; Principal Banker, Regional Head SME, Marko Galić; and Associate Director, Procurement Policy Adviser, Veljko Sikirica.
The conference stressed the importance of bringing the public and private sectors together to support regional social and economic development, as well as the creation of jobs and a supportive business environment.
The EBRD’s representatives encouraged potential bidders to apply for public tenders and enter into procurement contracts. The EBRD’s Procurement Policy Adviser Veljko Sikirica highlighted business opportunities in projects financed by the Bank, as well as the policies and rules of public procurement procedures.
To date, the EBRD has financially supported 76 projects in Slovenia to a total value of €915 million. In April 2016, the EBRD became a shareholder in Nova KBM, together with Apollo Global Management fund, said in statement.
